ELICOS Courses at Orange English College

ELICOS stands for English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students. These courses are specifically designed for international students who want to improve their English language skills for academic, professional, or personal purposes. Orange English College offers ELICOS courses in General English, IELTS Preparation, and English for Academic Purposes (EAP).

The general entry requirements for all ELICOS courses are:

  • You must be at least 18 years old.
  • Hold a valid student visa or an appropriate visa that allows you to study in Australia.
  • You will take a placement test upon arrival to determine your English level and ensure proper class placement.

For specific courses like IELTS Preparation or EAP, a minimum of Intermediate English proficiency is recommended.

The duration of each ELICOS course varies depending on your individual progress and learning needs:

  • General English: 5 to 72 weeks, based on your proficiency and goals.
  • IELTS Preparation: 5 to 36 weeks, depending on your preparation for the IELTS exam.
  • English for Academic Purposes (EAP): 5 to 36 weeks, designed to prepare you for further education.

No formal English test (like IELTS) is required to enrol. However, you will take a placement test at the start of your course to assess your current English level, which helps us place
you in the appropriate class.

Yes, you can change your course if your needs or goals change. For example, if you start in General English and later decide to pursue IELTS Preparation or EAP, we can assist with the transition. Speak with our Academic Coordinator/Manager to discuss your options.

Orange English College courses provide pathway options for students looking to continue their education or career after completing an ELICOS course:

  • Pathway to Vocational Studies or University: Students who complete the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) course will have the academic English skills needed to enrol in vocational education and training (VET) or Australian universities programs.
  • Pathway to Higher English Proficiency Levels: If you complete the General English or IELTS Preparation course, you can advance to higher levels of study or specialised language exams such as IELTS or PTE.

Yes, upon successful completion of your ELICOS course, you will receive a Certificate of Completion. This certificate will show your level of English proficiency and can be used to support vocational training/higher education applications, job opportunities, or visa applications.

FEES AND PAYMENTS

Preferred method of payment is via direct debit. If you haven’t signed up yet, please sign up at reception. Alternatively, you can pay by card at reception.

Monthly payment instalments are interest-free payment plans designed to help you pay your course fees to Orange English College. These plans are outlined in your Student Agreement and Acceptance of Offer (Offer Letter). You can find the details of your instalment plan in the Offer Letter, as well as in the invoices sent to your email for each monthly payment. If needed, you can also request a copy of your statement of account by submitting a General Enquiry Request Form, which can be found and submitted via the General Request Form.

Instalments are due on the 10th of every month. Invoices are issued monthly according to the instalment plans outlined in your offer letter, starting after your enrolment. You will receive a reminder to your Orange English email approximately 3 days before the instalment/invoice due date.

Direct debits will be processed on the due date or the first working day following the due date, as they can only occur on business days. If you have set up direct debit, please avoid making any manual bank transfers without informing Orange English College at least 3 business days before the due date to prevent double payments. *

If the direct debit fails and the invoice is not paid on time, additional reminders will be sent to you. Late payments may incur dishonour fees and late fees.

*Direct Debit is an automatic system and notifying us 2-3 business days in advance will allow time to process your request

Refund application can be submitted through the general enquiry request form and will be processed as per the refund conditions listed in the Offer Letter.

Orange English College offers help when you experience temporary and compelling situations. Short extensions of time can be considered under the fees policy. The fees extension application can be submitted through: General Request Form

No, a suspension does not affect the recurring monthly debit of fees. Students must continue their monthly payment instalments even while on an approved suspension with Orange English College, as this is part of the conditions of the instalment plan. However, you will not need to pay the course fee again if you need to retake any units affected by the suspension period. If you experience financial hardship during the suspension, you can apply for a fee extension, which will be assessed according to our fee policy.
